Meddys to donate 20 percent of weekend proceeds to help Jenny Wood, family

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

It's not just the food that brought many people out to Meddys; they came to support a friend.

"She's an amazing woman,” said Benito Carrillo.

Amy Tillison added, “Just as an individual, apart from her music, she's a special, completely kind, generous person."

These are words many used to describe Jenny Wood. So when it came time to help her, thousands stepped up, including local businesses like Meddys.

"This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we're going to be doing 20 percent of our total sales at both of our locations to be donated to Jenny Wood and her family to help her,” explained Meddys Marketing Manager Lindsay Jones. “With such a tragic event, it's so hard to not want to give."

Wood was critically hurt in a crash last week that killed her mother and 12-year-old niece, but she's doing better. A Facebook post from her family says Wood is making some incredible improvements.

"I immediately sent it to like five people,” said Kate Geren. “I did cry. I'm just so happy."

Carrillo stated, "We're rooting for her. Love and light, Jenny.”

“Absolutely, every day, love and light,” Tillison added.

Support is coming from across the city. It was just days before the crash, that Wood visited Independent School and shared her music. Now, the students are giving back.

They wrote songs for Wood hoping it will help in her recovery.

"The love that's outpouring for her, it's the most beautiful thing,” said Geren. “And for businesses to do something like this is just wonderful."
