WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A local musician who suffered critical injuries in a crash that killed her mother and 12-year-old niece has been upgraded to serious condition.

Staff at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis confirmed 36-year-old Jenny Wood's condition Friday morning. A Facebook page dedicated to updates on Wood's recovery says she "has made it over one of her many hurdles with many more to come but small diligent steps in this journey are happening."

"She's just an amazing woman. Really a local love and light for everyone. We've had so much outpouring of everyone, all their support, which is great," said Michael Peltzer, friend and bandmate of Jenny Wood and The Watchers

Wood was in the car with her niece and mother when a stolen BMW SUV crashed into them at Broadway and Douglas on Sunday. Her niece, 12-year-old Rosemary (Rosie) McElroy, and mother 70-year-old Maria Wood, died in the crash. The driver of a third vehicle involved in the crash was treated and released.

The alleged driver of that stolen SUV, 24-year-old Mia Collins, was booked Tuesday for two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated battery, a probation violation and other traffic charges. She has yet to make her first court appearance.

Collins' passenger, 38-year-old Christopher English, was still in the hospital at last update.

Three fundraisers have been set up by friends of the victims' family to help with medical costs and funeral expenses.
