Man charged with kidnapping 8-year-old girl outside west Wichita motel

A 39-year-old convicted child sex offender accused of kidnapping a young girl outside a west Wichita motel has been formally charged. 

Daniel Withrow appeared in court Thursday and was charged with kidnapping and aggravated indecent liberties with a child. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 16. 

Police allege Withrow grabbed an 8-year-old girl outside the White Glove Inn at pulled her into a storage shed on Sunday. He ran off after the child screamed for help, but was arrested at his home the next day. 

Withrow remains jailed on $100,000 bond. State corrections records show he has prior convictions of aggravated indecent liberties with a 14-year-old girl, criminal possession of a firearm and possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.

Wichita police have arrested a registered child sex offender who allegedly tried to kidnap an 8-year-old girl. 

Officers were called at around noon on Sunday to the report of an abduction at the White Glove Inn at 11430 West Kellogg. A 30-year-old woman told police that her daughter had been outside playing with her 8-year-old cousin when the suspect grabbed the girl and pulled her into a storage shed against her will.

Capt. Brent Allred said the girl screamed for help and the suspect took off. 

Officers arrested 39-year-old Daniel Alden Withrow at his home Monday morning. He was booked for one count of kidnapping and remains jailed on $100,000 bond. 

The investigation is ongoing. 

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Withrow has prior convictions of aggravated indecent liberties with a 14-year-old girl, criminal possession of a firearm and possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.

Withrow was sentenced in Reno County for indecent liberties in 2000 and the other crimes, in Sedgwick County, in 2013. He was last released from prison and placed on supervision in November of 2015.
