Boy thrown from Mall of America balcony has 'zero brain damage,' his pastor says

A 5-year-old boy who was thrown from a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America earlier this month shows no signs of brain damage, according the pastor at his church.

The Duluth News Tribune reports Mac Hammond, pastor of the Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park, updated his congregation on the boy’s condition on Easter Sunday. He said the boy, Landen, underwent an MRI last week to determine the extent of his injuries from the nearly 40-foot fall.

There was zero evidence of brain damage,” Hammond said. “There wasn’t even any swelling in the brain. No spinal cord injury, no nerve damage, no internal injuries that were life-threatening.”

Landen suffered several broken bones.

“One of his attending physicians said this: ‘This is truly a miracle. … It’s like he fell off a bicycle instead of the third floor of a mall,'” Hammond said.

GoFundMe page for Landen has raised nearly $1 million.

Emmanuel Aranda, 24, of Minneapolis, is charged with attempted premeditated first-degree murder in Friday's attack .
