WSU Interim President Dr. Andy Tompkins speaks before students, faculty

"It's a privilege to do this."

WSU Interim President Dr. Andy Tompkins spoke before students and faculty Thursday morning as the key speaker for the university's weekly briefing.

Tompkins said he looks forward to his time filling in as president of the university. Although it's only Tompkin's fourth day working on campus, he's already met students across campus and people in the community.

While he is deciding on his goals for his time in office, he said he will continue Dr. John Bardo's legacy of making everyone feel at home on the WSU campus while preparing the office for the next president.

"I love this emphasis on trying to get the community to come on campus and enjoy the campus so they can feel a little closer to it," said Tompkins.

It could take six months to a year before a new president will step into the role.

"My goal is to try to be a good steward, be helpful to you in anyway I can, and make sure it's in good shape for that next leader."
