Car seat safety checks at downtown fire station

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Safe Kids Wichita Area will be completing free car seat safety checks Thursday and at least once a month all year long.

The event will take place at Fire Station No. 1 at 731 North Main Street. The group is offering spots from 10:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. Thursday, though most slots were quickly filled. Each car seat check takes about 30 minutes.

Although the event is free, attendees need to register.  You can register for an appointment in the near future by clicking here and choosing "Select a Date".

According to a CDC report, injuries from car accidents are the leading cause of death among children. The study shows 35% of the children who died were not wearing a seat belt. More deaths were caused by improper use and installation of car seats and booster seats.

Safe Kids Wichita Area wants to decrease the number of children hurt or killed in a car accident by making sure car seats and booster seats are installed properly.
