A Norton woman was found dead Sunday and a suspect has been arrested in connection to her death.

The Norton County Sheriff's office responded to a report of a deceased woman at 16353 U.S. Highway 36.  Deputies found the body of 38-year-old Lori Shields inside the home.

Investigators identified the victim's husband, 42-year-old Damien L. Shields, as a suspect in the case.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that appeared to be self-inflicted.

At around 4:20 p.m. on Monday, Shields was arrested for the first-degree murder of his wife as he was being released from a hospital.

Lori Shields was a secretary at Eisenhower Elementary School in Norton.   Classes in USD 211 were called off Monday due to her death.
