Norton man arrested for wife's murderPosted: Updated:
A Norton woman was found dead Sunday and a suspect has been arrested in connection to her death.
The Norton County Sheriff's office responded to a report of a deceased woman at 16353 U.S. Highway 36. Deputies found the body of 38-year-old Lori Shields inside the home.
Investigators identified the victim's husband, 42-year-old Damien L. Shields, as a suspect in the case.
Early Monday morning, Cape Girardeau, Missouri police responded to a call for help at a hotel. Officers learned the man in the hotel room was Damien Shields who was sought in Kansas in connection to a homicide case. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that appeared to be self-inflicted.
At around 4:20 p.m. on Monday, Shields was arrested for the first-degree murder of his wife as he was being released from a hospital.
Lori Shields was a secretary at Eisenhower Elementary School in Norton. Classes in USD 211 were called off Monday due to her death.
