6-year-old boy dies after heart attack on baseball field

A North Georgia family is grieving the sudden loss of their son who collapsed and died after a sudden heart attack.

WTVC reports his is the last picture taken of 6-year-old Brantley Chandler.

Brantley's mother, Meghan Bryson, said her son loved baseball and that he was a proud Rock Springs Mustang.

She said he was on the baseball ball field with his teammates, getting ready to take the team picture when he collapsed. The next team picture of the Rock Springs Mustangs would be at Lake Funeral home as they said their final goodbyes.

Meghan says Brantley was born with a rare congenial heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.

The CDC reports less than 1,000 children in the United States are born with the defect each year. It stops the left side of the heart from developing normally.

Bryson said there’s no way she or any mother could’ve prepared for this.

The Rock Spring Athletic Association will hold a special tribute to Brantley on opening day, April 13th.

"When he was not playing baseball, Brantley could be found enjoying what the outdoors had to offer," Brantley's obituary says. "He loved Hunting, fishing, spending time with his hunting dog “Boss”, riding four wheelers, and playing in the mud getting his boots dirty! Brantley could ask more questions than anyone in a minute, he loved tractors and heavy equipment, and he attended Faith Baptist Church in Ringgold.  He will be truly missed by his family and all of the many people he touched."
