OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KAKE) -

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his wife, Susan, sat down for a special interview with KAKE News during a brief stop in Kansas.

"It's not like a place called Kansas and I miss it," said Susan Pompeo.

"Washington is a fantastic place to visit. Susan spent her whole life living in Kansas and loves her friends dearly," said Mike Pompeo.

The couple were in Overland Park to kick off the event called "Road to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit Heartland."

When asked what his message was to Kansas, Pompeo said:

"Come to Washington. I'm going to be incredibly difficult to find. I'm not going to be there. But, come see the greatness of America, the history, the glory, what our founding fathers have done to set the course for what is the greatest nation in the history of civilization."

Pompeo was serving his fourth term in Congress when he was selected by President Trump to lead the Central Intelligence Agency.

He was sworn in as the 70th U.S. Secretary of State in 2018.
