Part of northbound I-235 to close over weekend

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Northbound I-235, from Meridian to Broadway, will be closed over the weekend.

The closure will begin Friday at 9 p.m. and will end Monday at 6 a.m.

"We will completely close northbound I-235 to take off part of the bridge, that's there right now. Put some concrete barrier there to start rebuilding the new bridge just south of that bridge," said Tom Hein, KDOT spokesperson.

The detour will impact any drivers heading north on I-235. KDOT suggests that drivers turn around on Meridian, head south to Kellogg, and then drive north on I-135.

This weekend's work will focus on the bridge over the Little Arkansas River.

"We will maintain two lanes of traffic during rush hour for northbound I-235," said Hein.

At times, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., traffic may be reduced to one lane.
