Drunk driver who killed Wichita man sentenced to probation

Posted: Updated:

A woman convicted of driving under the influence and killing a 35-year-old Wichita man has been sentenced to a year of probation.

Alexandra Eslinger, 27, pleaded guilty in January to misdemeanor counts of DUI and vehicular homicide. She was sentenced last week.

The DA's office says a mandatory 48-hour jail term will be scheduled, and Eslinger will then have five days on house arrest. She was also ordered to pay a $1,200 fine.

The accident happened in the 2000 block of North West Street on July 14, 2017. Eslinger was jailed on the two counts more than a year later.

Investigators say 35-year-old Jesus Navarro-Gonzalez was heading south on his motorcycle when Eslinger turned in front of him causing him to collide into the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eslinger's probation carries an underlying sentence of 12 months in jail if she violates probation.

Records show Eslinger has a prior DUI conviction.
