GREAT BEND, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say a 15-year-old boy has died and two others were hospitalized following a crash east of Great Bend on Wednesday.

Barton County deputies responded shortly after 10:30 p.m. to the accident on Highway 66. Sheriff Brian Bellendir said it appears that an eastbound Dodge Ram may have been attempting to pass a vehicle when it went left of center and collided with a westbound Ford F250.

A passenger in the Dodge was killed. He was identified as 15-year-old Wyatt Henkel of Hudson

Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital in Great Bend.

Bellendir said the 17-year-old driving the Dodge attempted to avoid the accident by steering toward the left ditch. The crash remains under investigation.
