B-29 Doc Hangar will open three days a week

The new B-29 Doc Hangar and Education Center at Eisenhower National Airport is now open to the public.

Beginning today, the facility will be open on three times per week.

"We want to inspire the next generation of aviation workers and aviation lovers, just as we honor that Greatest Generation. Our volunteers are so excited to welcome people into the new Doc home, "said Josh Wells, executive director and general manager of Doc's Friends.

It will be open on Tuesday and Thursday each week, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., when the airplane is not on tour at an airshow.

"We don't raise money to go to airshows. We go to airshows to raise money. If someone is going to donate to our cause, we want every dollar to go right back into the airplane," said Wells.

Wichita's B-29 Superfortress known as Doc will be on display for the public with admission access.

Admission is $10 per person, with an additional $5 for a cockpit tour. Family admission (up to five people per family) is $20, plus an additional $10 for a cockpit tour.

All proceeds from the admission fees go directly to funding the facility and operation of Doc.

"Without the public's help, without people who come to see Doc and are inspired by our story, we wouldn't be able to do what we do. So, thank you to all of our volunteers and our donors," said Wells.
