VALLEY CENTER, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities have identified a 62-year-old man who died in Valley Center after an accident caused him to become trapped in a sawdust hopper.

At around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Valley Center police responded to a call at Conner Industries at 202 South Cedar Avenue. Witnesses said that a man was trapped in a sawdust hopper and buried underneath.

First responders had found a man not breathing. EMS tried to revive the man but were unsuccessful.

Authorities believe that the man, identified as Stephen Gray of Augusta, had gone to the business to purchase sawdust for agricultural reasons and became trapped after attempting to manually free up some sawdust that was stuck.

The Valley Center Police Department says the case is currently being viewed as an accident and expressed their condolences to family and friends of the man.
