Aviation union strikes over contract dispute

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Problems for the new air refueling tankers that just arrived at McConnell Air Force base as civilian contractors walked off the job Tuesday morning.

Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers started picketing at 6 a.m. The IAMAW Lodge 708 represents workers who are supposed to train airmen on the KC-46A Pegasus refueling tanker for FlightSafety at McConnell Air Force Base.

The group's Facebook page said members "voted 100 percent to reject the last, best, final offer" and "100 percent to strike."

Union members on the picket line declined to comment.

It comes just weeks after four of the brand new tankers arrived in Wichita. It comes after more than two years of delays on the aircraft's delivery.
