WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The Salvation Army will distribute winter coats this week at two locations in Wichita.

"It's just overwhelming to see how much our community cares," said Shannon Cabrera, a Salvation Army volunteer who has turned into a program assistant.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., coats and winter gear will be distributed to individuals and families in need.

"There are people that are getting coats, who currently do not have coats at all, simply because of the kindness of the people in this community," said Lt. Bobby Key with the Salvation Army Citadel.

There are two distribution sites. Organizers ask that you go to the location that is nearest to your home.

  • East Location: Citadel at 1739 S. Elpyco St (near Harry and Oliver)
  • West Location: West Orchard at 1910 S. Everett St (near Harry and Meridian)

To receive a coat, you must do the following:

  • Provide proof of ID for the individuals who need a coat
  • Complete a short form
  • Shop for coats
  • Gloves, hats, and other winter items are first come, first served
