Police in northern Utah say a 17-year-old girl who crashed her car was attempting the "Bird Box Challenge" while driving.
It happened Monday afternoon in Layton. Officials told KTVX that the 17-year-old decided to try the challenge while driving with a 16-year-old passenger.
She reportedly pulled her beanie over her eyes and immediately lost control of the vehicle, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle and a light pole.
Bird Box Challenge while driving...predictable result. This happened on Monday as a result of the driver covering her eyes while driving on Layton Parkway. Luckily no injuries. pic.twitter.com/4DvYzrmDA2— Layton Police (@laytonpolice) January 11, 2019
Police said no one was hurt. They are seeking a reckless driving charge against the teen.
The "Bird Box Challenge" consists of people doing everyday activities while blindfolded. The trend became popular after "Bird Box" starring Sandra Bullock premiered on Netflix.
Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.— Netflix US (@netflix) January 2, 2019
