Police arrest 2 teens in north Wichita shootingPosted: Updated:
Wichita police have arrested two teenage boys in connection to a shooting that injured and 18-year-old man.
Two officers were doing follow-up near 19th Street and Wellington Place when they heard gunshots. Another officer saw a blue Ford Taurus driving southbound in a suspicious manner. Sgt. J.D. Summerer said earlier that the vehicle had its lights off and was leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
The Taurus circled the neighborhood and parked in front of the Boom Smoke Shop at 1935 North Broadway.
Officer Charley Davidson said the 15-year-old passenger got out of the car and ran. They arrested him in the 1900 block of North Market and found a rifle nearby.
The 16-year-old driver ran into the smoke shop. Officers arrested him in the store, where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his hip.
The victim was treated at a local hospital and released.
Officer Davidson said the shooting stemmed from a disturbance outside the smoke shop. The teens were booked into juvenile detention for aggravated battery, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
