WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The parents of an 11-year-old Wichita girl who drowned in a lake while attending a church party for middle-schoolers have reached a settlement with the church and the owners of the home where it happened.

Shelby Cramb died on August 27, 2017 during an end of summer lake party in the 3200 block of North Ridge Port. The event was hosted by Pathway Church at the home of Matthew and Laurisa Washburn, according to court documents.

Shelly, a sixth-grader at Maize Middle School, was discovered to be missing at around 5 p.m., and her body was discovered in the water at approximately 6:30. A coroner determined she drowned.

Fire officials said following the tragedy that the search began after Shelly's parents came to pick her up from the party.

A petition filed last month requested that the court approve the settlement, the terms of which were not disclosed. A lawsuit was not filed.

Law firm Hite, Fanning & Honeyman said "the church has taken the steps necessary to ensure that a tragedy like this never happens again."
