The Wichita City Council has approved a water and sewer rate increase for this year.
An increase of 4.15 percent was unanimously approved at Tuesday's council meeting. The city proposed an increase of 7.7 percent in November.
The rate hike goes into effect next month.
The funds will help pay for operations and maintenance operations as well as a new water treatment facility and regulatory improvements to the wastewater treatment system.
