Shockers will travel to OKC during expected winter weather

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Fans of the Wichita State Shockers will be traveling to Oklahoma this weekend during expected winter weather.

KAKE Meteorologists are forecasting rain, ice, or snow for Saturday in Oklahoma City.

"I was like, 'Really? It's got to be on that day?' 'Cause you want a great turnout. You want to see that black and yellow in the crowd. But it doesn't matter. We're going," said Amanda Morris, Shocker fan.

The Shockers will take on the University of Oklahoma Sooners during a game at the Chesapeake Energy Arena on Saturday. Tipoff is at 11 a.m.

The Wichita State Alumni Association will have two charter buses going to the game. Both buses are filled with fans that will travel Saturday morning and return that evening.

"We've spoken with Village. Their drivers are very well trained and we have complete confidence in their capabilities. We're excited to just head south and cheer on the Shockers," said Courtney Marshall, president of the alumni association.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority is also monitoring the weather and preparing roads for drivers.

"No matter how much pre-treatment or treatment of the road that we do, the roads can always be hazardous. So, slow down and take your time," said Jeri Beihler, communications manager.
