GODDARD, Kan. (KAKE) -

When Shauna Pirl thinks of her best friend Conner Richuber, these two words come to mind: "Bubbly, funny.”

Richuber was killed in a crash Tuesday morning near the intersection of 167th West and 21st Street North.

Investigators say Richuber crossed the center line and hit an oncoming SUV. The driver of the SUV was taken to a  hospital with critical injuries.

Deputies believe icy roads may have contributed to the crash.

"He was always just the most happy person, and he had the best heart of anybody that I know,” said Pirl.

Friends call Richuber the best person they knew; the kind of person that knew no strangers and was always there when you needed him.

"He was always supportive and he was someone you could go to for anything,” Emy Autry recalled.

Maggie Herriage added, “Everyday going into third hour, which is the class we had together, he just always came up to me all smiley and saying hi to me asking how my day was. Just being super sweet and if I was sad he'd make me laugh even if I didn't want to."

Students were told about the crash before school let out, a somber moment.

"It got super quiet and no one talked,” said Autry.

Herriage added, "Yea, when the third-hour bell rang, we usually hear people but we didn't hear anything out in the hallways."

Friends say they want Richuber's family to know he won't ever be forgotten.

"He meant a lot. He helped me through some really tough times over the past three years. He was always the person that I turned to,” said Pirl. “He was always there to help anybody; it didn't matter who it was."

Goddard high school principal, Doug Bridwell said the school’s crisis team will be available to support students and staff throughout the week.
