How to track Wichita area snow plows

Posted: Updated:
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

On Thursday, Wichita and surrounding towns have seen a mixture of both snow and rain and if the temps get low enough overnight, there could be some slick spots on overpasses and bridges.

The City of Wichita will have trucks out all night placing a light dusting of salt and sand mix on the roads to create some traction.

If the roads end up drying up before the temps get below freezing, we shouldn’t have too many problems. But you should still give yourself some extra space between your car and vehicles around you. Also, don’t use your cruise control.

We spoke with a few drivers who say they just hope others on the road are paying attention.

“Just be courteous and cautious and always be prepared for anything. They might not get to the roads right away and we always have to be prepared for that,” said driver Nichole Nix.

“That they pay attention, just like everybody else. When it’s cold and it’s icy, everybody’s gotta pay attention to everybody around them,” driver Bruce Harris said.

You can see where the City of Wichita snow plow/treatment trucks are on a Google map. The map can be zoomed and panned.

The map also shows where each truck has been for the last hour.jackl

You can click on a given truck and see its status.
