Voters take advantage of last day of early voting

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Nearly 900 Sedgwick County voters cast an early ballot today.

"We definitely have had a great number of people showing up which is wonderful. across the county, we have had over 26% of registered voters have already cast their ballot," said Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Tabitha Lehman.

Early voting was only available at the Sedgwick County Election Office today from 8 a.m. to noon.

Despite lines, many voters did not mind the wait.

"It took me about 5 minutes and it was going by very quickly. It's good to see many people out voting today," said Michael Carper, Wichita voter.

"I'm glad to see the long lines 'cause that just means more people are out here and getting their votes heard. So, I'm okay with it actually. I'm just glad that I got here before the super long lines," said Adria Smith, Wichita voter.

Lehman estimated that more than 26-percent of registered voters have already cast their ballot in Sedgwick County.

"We don't know if that's going to mean really big (voter turnout) tomorrow or if that means that's taking some of that pressure off the polling sites for tomorrow. We'll just have to wait and see," said Lehman.

Lehman provided theses estimates for early voting on the Mondays before the elections:

  • Monday, Nov. 5, 2018: 860+
  • Monday, Nov. 7, 2016: 1,300+
  • Monday, Nov. 3, 2014: 491
  • Monday, Nov. 5, 2012: 397
