As family slept, 2-year-old wandered into road and was struck by carsPosted: Updated:
Authorities in North Carolina say a 2-year-old boy apparently wandered away from his home before being hit by two vehicles.
It happened at around 6 a.m. Monday outside a home in Patterson Springs, west of Charlotte. State troopers told WSOC it appeared Bruce Fleming wandered away from his home and walked into a road about 100 yards away where he was hit by two vehicles.
Fleming died at the scene. He would have been 3 years old on Saturday.
A child was hit by a car and killed on South Post Road just south of Shelby. @NCSHP is investigating. I’m on the scene talking to them to learn more about what happened. A driver saw the boy on the shoulder of the road and stopped in an effort to get him but was too late, and witnessed the collision.
The family released the following statement:
"We are heartbroken over the tragic and sudden loss of little Bruce. Bruce’s parents are utterly devastated by the death of their beloved only son, whom they adored and doted on. We request that you keep the family, witnesses to the accident, and first responders in your thoughts and prayers."
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the child's memorial fund.
