Police: Bystander shot at north Wichita gas station

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Police are searching for suspects after a 50-year-old bystander was shot at a gas station in north Wichita.

Officers were called just after midnight on Thursday to a shooting at the Valero near 21st and Grove. Police say the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the him and then got into a car. He was located near 15th and Hillside and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officer Charley Davidson said a 48-year-old man and a woman were arguing at the Valero and the woman then got into a small SUV or pickup with two other men. As they were leaving, someone inside the vehicle fired at the 48-year-old man, hitting the victim in the process.

Officer Davidson said the victim was not involved in the altercation.

Police do not believe the shooting was random. Davidson said investigators have developed a suspect and are working to located that person, who has not been identified.
