WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Wichita North High student was arrested today after they were found with a gun at school.

A message sent to North High parents described it as an isolated incident with no threats and no one was hurt.   North's security officer and SRO worked immediately to take the student into custody.

USD 259 has a zero tolerance policy regarding weapons.   The student faces expulsion.

Good afternoon, North High parents.  The safety of our students and staff is a top priority here at North. Today we had a student in possession of a gun at school. The discovery was an isolated incident and there were no threats made and no one was hurt. Our Security Officer and SRO got involved immediately and took the student into police custody.  We followed all district safety protocols in this matter to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Our students and staff know about "see something, say something" and it worked!  I appreciate the trust our students and staff have to report concerns to administration and security to keep everyone safe.

Parents, please discuss with your child the far reaching and serious consequences of bringing inappropriate things to school. The Wichita Public Schools has a 'Zero Tolerance' policy in regards to weapons. Students and parents are required to sign off during enrollment about their understanding of this policy. We take these matters seriously and will not tolerate anything that could potentially harm students or put them in fear.

Thank you for your continued support of North High School.
