Authorities say a 10-year-old Florida girl escaped a kidnapping attempt by hitting her would-be captor and running away.
Deputies in Sumter County responded to an attempted abduction Friday. WFTS reports the victim told them the man walked up to her at a park and grabbed her arm in an attempt to pull her with him.
The girl said she was able to get away after she hit him. The sheriff's office said the man briefly ran after her before giving up and running back to his car.
Deputies located the suspect, identified as 60-year-old Kevin Ramsey, of Belleview, in a different area of the park. He was arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping, battery and possession of marijuana.
Authorities were reaching out statewide to other agencies to see if the suspect fits the description of any other abductions or abduction attempts.
