Man killed in crash when semi tries to pass utility truck

LIBERAL, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say a 45-year-old man died in a crash in southwest Kansas on Wednesday.

It happened at around 2:45 p.m. on K-51 in western Seward County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a semi attempted to pass a utility truck that was turning left onto a county road. Both vehicles went into ditches on opposite sides of the roadway and overturned. 

A passenger in the utility truck, Florin Bulea, was taken to a hospital in Liberal where he died. He was from Minto, North Dakota. 

Both drivers and a passenger in the utility truck were not hurt. The two in the utility truck are from Hays and the driver of the semi is from Protection.
