Fundraiser brings Vice President Pence to Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Vice President Mike Pence will be in Wichita Thursday night, at fundraisers for both Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Kris Kobach and the Republican Governor’s Association.

Pence and Kobach will be at a dinner and reception at the Air Capital Flight Line, 4174 South Oliver, Building 16.

Kobach lead democrat Laura Kelly in a recent Emerson College poll earlier this month by just one point. So campaigning for votes is just as important int his race as campaigning for donors.

“Money makes the difference,” said Dr. Russell Arben Fox, political science professor at Friends University. “Money is going to make a difference of how many ads you’re going to get on television or get out over the internet.”

The Republican Governor’s Association has raised already more than $156 million this year, just yesterday the organization released another spot in the race targeting democrat Laura Kelly.

The relationship between Kobach and the Trump administration is nothing new. Kobach was and advisor to the President’s efforts to fight illegal voting – though the effort was disbanded. The President also endorsed Kobach one day before the gubernatorial primary in August.

While a visit from both the Vice President and President, for the same candidate in the same month, isn’t unusual Fox believes it’s a sign that campaign workers are worried about polls.

“To send both of them to raise money and to create positive visuals, that can only mean they are worried,” he said.
