A 27-year-old man told Wichita police he was shot in the face during a robbery on the city's west side.
Officers were originally called at around 7 a.m. Wednesday to a shooting at Central and Ridge, but after further investigation, a scene was located in the 500 block of South Florence. That's near Kellogg and West Street.
Officer Paul Cruz said police contacted the victim at a local hospital and he told them a suspect demanded money and then shot him in the face. The suspect took personal property and fled the area.
Cruz later said the shooting was drug related.
A citizen took the victim to the hospital, where he was being treated for serious injuries.
A description of the suspect was not provided. Anyone with information is asked to call WPD detectives at (316) 268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.
