WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Wichita Police officer is suing Police Chief Gordon Ramsay,  saying the Chief ruined his reputation.

Officer Marlon Woolcock was arrested last year, accused of rape.  He was never criminally charged,  but he says comments Chief Ramsay made when Woolcock was arrested were misleading and made it seem like Woolcock committed the crime.

Woolcock's attorney filed the lawsuit, claiming Chief Ramsay disparaged Woolcock in an e-mail to the entire department and later in a briefing with reporters.  At the time Chief Ramsay said, "I can't help but be very disturbed by the nature of these allegations and in no way should it reflect on the good people of the Wichita Police Department."

The lawsuit also claims Chief Ramsay's comments hurt Woolcock's chances of ever becoming an FBI agent.   Woolcock seeks $75,000 in damages.
