WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Police say a man and a 7-month-old baby suffered minor injuries, possibly from shrapnel, in a shooting in northeast Wichita.

Officers were called at around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday to reports of shots fired in the 2400 block of North Chautauqua, just west of Hillside. Capt. Lem Moore said a residence had been struck by gunfire and that a man and child had minor injuries.

"These injuries do not look to be as a result of direct gunshot wounds, but possibly shrapnel," Capt. Moore said, adding that the baby was hospitalized.

A nearby house and vehicle were also struck.

Capt. Moore said witnesses reported hearing multiple shots and that there was more than one shooter, but he was unable to provide their descriptions.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.
