A Wichita man has been sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison for shooting a Kansas Department of Revenue agent.

A judge on Thursday sentenced 52-year-old Ricky Wirths to 165 months. A jury in June found him guilty of attempted first-degree murder in the September 2017 shooting of Cortney Holloway.

Police said Wirths asked to see agent Holloway at his north Wichita office. When Holloway appeared, Wirths opened fire, shooting the agent several times.

Wirths claimed he was angry at the agent and the government who earlier had confiscated his money and property. At the time Wirths owed nearly $400,000 in back taxes.
