A 43-year-old Wichita woman has died and her daughter was seriously hurt when their Jeep fell 600 feet down a mountainside in Colorado.

The accident happened at around 12:30 local time Tuesday. The Mountain Mail reports Jennifer Lynn Orr was driving in a caravan of five Jeeps about three miles above St. Elmo, west of Colorado Springs, at the time of the accident.

Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze told the Mail that upon encountering a large rock in the road, Orr tried to maneuver the Jeep Wrangler over the rock, but the Jeep started to slide and went off the road and down the slope.

The caravan was at an elevation of 11,440 feet on an rough four-wheel-drive road when the slide happened.

Orr died at the scene and her daughter was flown to a hospital in Pueblo.
