WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The Wichita State Shockers volleyball team held their first day of official practice on Wednesday.

They return three starters from their American Athletic Conference championship club from last season. They are ready to carry the torch as leaders of this year's team.

"We are asking those guys because they've sort of earned that status amongst the team to be a little more forward and on top of stuff. You know, we've said goodbye to some girls in recent history here that carried a lot of that so that's a transition for us. But both very active participants today in that role," head coach Chris Lamb said.

The Shockers are just outside of the top-25 in the preseason AVCA Poll. They received 103 points, which is 29th best in the nation.

They will start their season on Aug. 24 at JMU.
