Police: Naked man on roof damages cars in south Wichita

Police have arrested a 35-year-old naked man who allegedly went on a rampage, standing on a roof and damaging cars in south Wichita.

Jail records show Joseph Franklin was booked Sunday morning for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery and six counts of criminal damage to property.

A witness took cell phone video of the incident on Saturday. It shows the man standing on a roof near George Washington Boulevard and Lincoln. The man was tearing things off the roof and hurling the debris onto parked cars below.

When officers arrived, Franklin allegedly threw objects toward the officers, hitting and damaging patrol vehicles.

One woman was shopping when she got word that her car had been damaged.

"The dollar store lady said there's a naked man outside," Sandy Echeverria said. "My windshield got shattered."

The incident lasted over an hour. Officers said the man didn't come down willingly, but he was arrested following a struggle.

Franklin on Monday remained in the Sedgwick County Jail on $10,000 bond.
