KINSLEY, Kan. (KAKE) -

A 3-year-old Kansas boy has been hospitalized in Wichita after he was accidentally shot by his twin brother.

The incident happened just before 6 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of East 4th Street in Kinsley. Edwards County Sheriff Bryant Kurth said somehow a firearm was out and one of the boys got a hold of it. It went off, striking the other boy.

By the time and officer and EMS arrived on scene, the boy had already been taken to a local hospital. He was then flown to Wesley Medical Center due to concern over blood loss.

The child's condition was stable Friday morning.

Sheriff Kurth said that authorities have yet to speak to the parents to find out exactly what happened.

Additional information was not provided.
