Wearing a Wichita flag across his chest, newly drafted Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Davontae Harris asked the Wichita community Thursday to step up with him in support of local children.

Harris is fronting a grassroots effort called #WichitaKid promoting the overall welfare of the area's youth. On Friday afternoon, he will deliver school supplies to the Wichita Children's Home which serves over 1,500 children per year, giving them a place to live and transition into a more hopeful and healthy family life.

Amid the back-to-school rush, Harris says he knows kids in this type of situation deserve a better chance to achieve academically and socially. The Wichita Children's Home provides a list of specific items that are needed most. That list shows the greatest demand for older kids in high school and junior high.

Harris has been asking the community to gather supplies at Omnicut Motivational Fitness (11050 E Central) ahead of Friday afternoon's delivery to the Wichita Children's Home. Donations can also be dropped off at the home between 8 am-5 pm on weekdays and 10 am - 2 pm on weekends.
