TOPEKA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A Hutchinson couple has claimed the largest instant win in Kansas Lottery history and the $250,000 prize that goes with it.

The winning couple, who chose to remain anonymous, scratched the winning ticket on Saturday evening.

The win comes at a great time for the couple. “I have been working towards retirement, and was hoping I could do it this year,” said the man. “Now, I can retire for sure! No question about it. It’s a huge relief for us.”

The couple says they plan to put the money towards retirement and bills, but the win also allows for them to organize a long dreamed about family vacation. “We’re going to pay for a vacation for us, our kids, and our grandkids. We’ve always wanted to take a big trip together, and now we can!” she added with a smile.

The winning ticket was sold at Yesway 1043 at 1000 West 30th Avenue in Hutchinson.
