WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

More than one million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and one local group is helping men deal with the serious illness.

The Wichita Prostate Cancer Support Group was founded by Horace Santry , a Wichita urologist in 1994. Santry said group meets regularly and offers a comfortable environment to discuss their fears and ask personal questions.

"I think being in a group realizing there are a lot of other people who have dealt with the same thing you're dealing with helps people make it to the next meeting," said Santry.

Santry went on to say on that the while prostate cancer can be deadly, it's curable in many cases and the number of cases is much higher among African-Americans.
