WETUMKA, Okla. (KAKE) -

A pit bull in Oklahoma has become the state's pit bull K-9 officer, according to a nonprofit organization.

"Misunderstood dogs can make a difference," the Throw Away Dogs Project said on Facebook.

The Wetumka Police Department confirmed that the dog, named Wildflower, is the state's first rescue pit bull trained to become a narcotics K-9 police officer, KOCO reports.

Kansas got its first pit bull police dog last year.
