SALINA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Salina police have arrested a 56-year-old man who allegedly beat a cat to death while sitting on his front porch.

Officers were called Thursday to a home in the 300 block of East Wilson Street. Sgt. Jim Feldman told KSAL that witnesses reported seeing Randy Harris strike the animal repeatedly and slam it into a trash can, where it was later found dead.

An officer stopped Harris on South 4th Street and attempted to arrest him. Feldman said Harris resisted, grabbing and tugging on the officer. The officer was still able to make the arrest.
