The unsettled weather pattern across the Central Plains brings a chance of showers and storms to KAKEland Thursday afternoon and a few could be severe.

During the heat of the afternoon, a few storms may bubble up in South Central Kansas in and around Wichita. While these storms could be noisy they are not expected to be overly strong or severe with most likely issue being heavy rain. If these storms develop, look for them in the early to mid-afternoon hours, they will then track east and northeast out of KAKEland as we head into the evening.

After 6pm, storms will be possible in Northwest Kansas and these storms will develop in an environment that could promote severe weather. The most likely threats will be high wind gusts and potentially some hail stones around 1”. At this point and time, the tornado threat appears to be quite low. Storms will likely merge into a line and track eastward in North Central Kansas late. This line of storms could produce wind gusts that exceed 70mph. This line of storms will gradually weaken as it slides east into North Central Kansas.
