Salina man accused of 'cruelly beating' 8-year-old daughter

Posted: Updated:

Police have arrested a Salina man for allegedly abusing his 8-year-old daughter after the girl told her mother that her father tried to kill her.

Officers responded Sunday to a report of child abuse that happened last Thursday in the 400 block of South Broadway. Capt. Paul Forrester told the Salina Post that the child's mother noticed her daughter wasn't acting normal when she came home from visiting her father.

The girl had said that her dad tried to kill her by allegedly putting a plastic bag over her mouth, holding her down on a mattress, pushing her into a wall, choking her, throwing objects and pulling a knife.

The girl was taken to a hospital for treatment of bruises consistent with choking, the Post reports.

Police arrested 56-year-old Terry Huehl on suspicion of two counts of aggravated battery, four counts of battery, aggravated child endangerment, criminal threat and child abuse -- "torture or cruelly beating a child."
