WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita police say an 11-year-old girl is safe and two people are in custody after the report of an abduction.

Officers responded at around 9:20 a.m. Monday to a car theft in the 1200 block of North Emporia. A 28-year-old mother also told police her daughter was still in the vehicle.

The woman said her daughter was outside with the car, and she later check and found the vehicle and her daughter were gone, Officer Charley Davidson said.

"Unbeknownst to the female, a family member had actually picked up the 11-year-old and taken her to school. Officers were able to contact her at school and she is safe," Officer Davidson said.

Officers canvassed the area and found the car a few blocks away at the Auto Motel at 1230 North Broadway. A male and a female were taken into custody, Davidson said.

No names were released.
