Sheriff's office identifies woman killed in fiery crash near Goddard

GODDARD, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities have identified a 20-year-old woman who was killed in a fiery crash involving a car and a semi near Goddard.

The accident happened at around 4 a.m. Tuesday 183rd and West MacArthur Road. Capt. Brad Hoch with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office said witnesses called 911 to report an explosion. When crews arrived, they found that a car and semi had collided and were on fire.  

The woman in the car died at the scene. Lt. Tim Myers with the sheriff's office identified her as Mary Jo Heim.

The 41-year-old driver of the semi was hospitalized for minor burns. 

Dry groceries in the semi burned through the morning and MacArthur was closed for several hours.
