Steven, Genesis to develop Goddard aquatic center

GODDARD, Kan. (KAKE) -

A planned aquatic center in Goddard has a new developer and he knows Sedgwick County well.   Wichita businessman Rodney Steven said his Genesis Health Clubs will be the exclusive developer and operator for Goddard Aquatic Center, near 199th West and Kellogg.

Ground was broken on the project in January, 2016.  Since then a couple of developers have pulled out of the project.

Steven's plan includes a 60,000 square foot aquatic center with a 50-meter competition pool and seating for 600 people.  That would allow the center to host large regional swim meets.

The project also includes four baseball fields, soccer fields and a Genesis Health Club.

Goddard Mayor Jamey Blubaugh estimates the project will have an annual economic impact of $236 million and bring 400 new jobs to the area.
