Arrest made in southwest Wichita homicide

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Police have arrested a man in connection to an April 18 homicide that occurred in southwest Wichita.

DeWayne Austin Cope, 30, is accused in the murder of Trenton Custer.

A neighbor found Custer dead inside a mobile home in the 3800 block of south Meridian earlier this month.

Investigators believe there was a fight inside the home. Police say the 39-year-old had been shot several times.

Cope is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder as well as probation violations and a fugitive from justice warrant in Oklahoma. 

Kansas Department of Corrections records state Cope is on Community Corrections for forgery and drug possession. He also has numerous prior drug-related convictions.
