WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Police are asking for the public's help after a dog with both of its front legs broken and other injuries was found in north Wichita.

The approximately two-year-old pit bull was found Tuesday around 9:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of North Market. The dog suffered injuries to his face and legs.

"Never had a dog's leg break from a dog bite, so that tells me that this was probably a long fight and a very big dog," said Randi Carter, board of Beauties and Beasts animal rescue.

Additionally, Lt. Brian Sigman with Wichita Animal Control said the dog appeared to have been "fresh out of a dog fight."

"We're definitely looking at it as a case of dog fighting. This was either a dog that was dumped over here or possibly been a bait dog in a dog fight," said Sigman.

Rescue group Beauties and Beasts and Countryside Pet Clinic in Andover are caring for the dog. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.

Beauties and Beasts said in a Facebook post that emergency surgery is needed to amputate one of the dog's legs.
